Why oh why??

sigh.

I don't know what is wrong with me. But nowadays I seem to finish my work in the very very verrrryyyyy last minute...

I have the following to complete:-

1. A 10-page min Transplantation essay (was long due since early Feb...but the dr. was cool with the deadline...and gave us all a final deadline of 31/03/06)

2. TWO case discussions on 2 different themes - investigative procedures
- genetics
(BOTH due 31/03/06, but because I am doing a rotation out of Dundee, I get the priviledged of handing it on the following Mon...phew!!!)

3. A report for my theme SCC, paediatric cardiology which was due on 30/03/06.

Right. I know i know...u must be thinking I'm super lazy...especially the transplantation essay. Its not like I have a lot of time left to finish my work, the clock decided to go forward an hour last Sunday! So I only had 23 hours on that day...urgh!

I became more hardworking this week. Completed my TRansplantation essay and the Paeds Cardio. I'm almost done with my genetics case...and I have yet to start my investigative procedure essay...and I thought I could relax over the weekend and maybe visit a castle...bcoz Scotland is having some sort of promo, where entrance into all castles will be free!

hah..fat hope...haven't complete my work....why oh why am i so bloody lazy!!!!

aaaarrgggghhhh.....i need help....

Lub Dub, Lub Dub

Those are the sounds made by your heart. I observed an open heart surgery a few days ago. It was interesting indeed. The procedures involved:

1. The surgeons reached for the heart by sawing through the sternum (the bone right in front of the chest). They used an electrical saw...It looked like a rounded chainsaw. "zzzzzzeeeeeeee" went the chainsaw through the sternum. *yikes!

2. They identified the heart structures and corrected the heart abnormality. Mind you, the heart was still beating while they did this. And I dunno why, but I felt abit odd and surprised when I saw the heart beating away...However, in certain heart surgeries, the surgeons would induce the heart to stop beating medically, with a specially prepared solution containing lots of potassium. (almost similar to the lethal injection used to kill ppl). Once the heart stops beating, the surgeons have about 30-45mins to operate on the heart.

3. While correcting the structures of the heart, the lungs were not used to ventilate the body (lungs stop moving), but the blood from the heart was carried to a heart-lung bypass machine, which helped to oxygenate the blood, and this was brought back to the heart where it was pumped to other parts of the body. I thought this technology was really cool.

4. Throughout the whole procedure, the patient was infused with an anticoagulant in order to prevent blood clot formation, which may cause complications later on.

5. Once everything was done, metal wires were used to join the divide sternum together...these stitches remain in the body forever..and if u did a chest x-ray on the patient, you can actually see them.

This patient that I saw in the op theatre actually had a rare heart condition, called "left atrial isomerism" or "polysplenia syndrome". so he will have 2 left-sided lungs, rotated intestines, multiple spleens. It is a wonder how this condition even occurred, eh?

I Love You, Casio

Dear Casio,

You have been my close friend for the past 2 years. I love you so much. You allow me to look at things in many different angles. We have so many good memories together. You followed me to Korea, Singapore, Scotland, Malaysia...you always hung on although we were both tired by the end of the day. We braved so many seasons together: summer, autumn, spring, winter. And only you will understand how I look at life and how I appreciate it.

I am going to miss you so much. I am so sorry...I must have hurt you by drowning you in a pool of water. It was my mistake, I know. Although nothing can be done about it, I just want you to know that I will always cherish you and I remember that you are always my first Digital Camera, Casio.

Invasion of Privacy

Does anyone understand the word PRIVACY?

According to the dictionary, Privacy = freedom from unauthorised intrusion

So everyone, pls tell me if i'm wrong.

Reading through another person's email or letters, or searching through their personal belongings without the owners' permissions is considered as invasion of privacy, no?

I mean, the website asks for your password before logging in with a reason, right?

I am utterly upset when I got to know that someone close to me has just violated my privacy.

From my point of view, so long as you have violated my privacy, you don't respect me anymore.

Enough is said.

hehe...even the rubbish bins looked pretty on Sunday!

Snow in Spring?

It is already the month of March...and it is supposed to be spring. but no...god decided that since we didn't have much of a white winter...so he has decided to give us a snow storm last weekend! haha... it was really nice to see the snow flakes falling down, piece by piece... the view of the snow covering the grass, the roads, the trees. One word to describe: Amazing.

This year I didn't manage to build any snowman...was very busy with work. But as me and my housemate walked to Tesco, we saw plenty of kids having fun with their sleighs. Walking through the snow-covered ground is fun! I loved it...

The only bad thing about snow is once it starts to melt...the white patches of snow becomes dirty due to ppl's footsteps. Moreover, the roads become very slippery. It was really difficult to walk on the roads on Monday morning.

Today, when I was on my way to the ward, it started to snow again! haha...but this was short-lived....only lasted for 10mins.

From Dunfermline, Fife to Yorkhill, Glasgow

I have completed my block at Dunfermline last week. Now I'm doing Paediatric Cardiology at Yorkhill, which is a hospital for the sick children.

I was actually hoping that the accommodation provided at Yorkhill would be better than the one I had at Dunfermline. But I was so so wrong.

Once I was given the keys, I lugged my bags to the 5th floor. The corridor leading to my room was not very well lighted. My room was located at the end of the corridor. There were about 10 rooms altogether. So it was basically like a hostel. No offence, I have nothing against hostels...but this place didnt look nice at all.

Anyway, I went into the room to find a bed, cupboard, sink, a chair and a table. These are my complaints:

- There was no table light. But there was a lamp shade attached to the wall just above the bed. I can't work on the bed or study there...I would fall asleep...so the light wasn't placed properly.

- The sink was built so low that by the end of my 5 days there, I ended up with a mild backache. I have to bend so low just to brush my teeth everytime.

- There is no common room. I am sure most hostels have at least one common room somewhere. But to my dismay, there wasn't one. At least, my accommodation at Dunfermline had a TV. There is no TV or radio here. How am I going to live thru boredom??

- There is no shower head in the toilet. Now, I am not the type of person who soaks in the bath. So I find it really difficult to have my routine bath everyday. The toilet is equipped with separate hot and cold water taps. So I have to mix the water into a small little basin before I could even rinse myself. So I take twice the normal time for bathing! Talk bout wasting time!

- The kitchen has no microwave. The cooker looks so dirty. The only thing that is useable is the kettle. No one bothers to wash their own mugs...so I see dirty dishes everywhere. Not to mention the funny stench in the kitchen...eeewww...

The only GOOD thing bout the place is the heater...which was better than the one in Dunfermline. So at least I feel warm in the room.

In conclusion, this place SUCKS big time! I'm just counting down the days till the end of my block.

Goodbye my lover

"Did I disappoint you or let you down?
Should I be feeling guilty or let the judges frown?
Goodbye my lover,
Goodbye my friend,
You have been the one,
You have been the one for me...
I'm so hollow, baby, I'm so hollow." James Blunt.

Life is Tough!

I am sorry....but I really need to stress that again.

My 4 years 3 months relationship with my fiance has just ended not too long ago.

No, it wasn't because we don't love each other anymore...

No, it wasn't because either of us have found someone new...

We just do not have the same priorities and goals at the moment. And we both could not come to a compromise. Therefore, the best way to solve the problem is to part.

It is such a sad ending to a nearly perfect relationship.

Goodbye my lover. I will surely miss you.
